On Saturday, 9th August elsewhere teamed up with MTV to host the Gold Coast finals of MTV Kickstart - a national initiative to assist aspiring and independent artists by giving them all the tools necessary to break into the music industry. 5 finalists had been selected to battle it out LIVE @ elsewhere for their chance at a spot in the national finals - BoWsER, The Murderettes, Panther DLX, The Moderns and Elke.
When the doors opened at 7pm there was a line of excited fans half way down Cavill Avenue!! Band groupies and lovers of live music alike were out in force to catch another LIVE performance at elsewhere. The bands kicked off at 8pm, having only 2 songs to impress the judges.
The boys provided 5 amazing performances - pure rock, indie punk, electro indie, indie rock and new wave. With slightly different styles there was something for everybody and the audience certainly seemed receptive; with hundreds of guys rocking out and even more girls screaming as the bands hit the stage!
With half an hour of deliberation the judges - Susie Patten from band I Heart Hiroshima, Shaun Wilson from Radio Metro, Sam Cleveland from The Gold Coast Bulletin and MTV Marketing Manager, Sam Coombes - the announcement was made...... "The winners of the MTV Kickstart Gold Coast heat is Gold Coast rockers...... The Moderns"
Samuel, Andre, Willi and Swanny will now head down to Sydney in September to battle city against city during the Kickstart Final. There is no doubt that the boys will do the Gold Coast proud! Congratulations go out to the winners - as well as to the other four finalists; BoWsER, The Murderettes, Panther DLX and Elke. Thank you for making it an amazing night and showing MTV what the Gold Coast has to offer!

+Van She [LIVE] + AJAX
The Van She Party -two live bands and six DJ sets - it was an event not to be missed! Even though the event sold out elsewhere kindly offered a limited amount of tickets to those devoted fans waiting outside the venue before the doors opened at 9pm last Sunday.
With such a jam packed line-up of amazing guests it was necessary to get the night started early and Wolfgang DJs certainly did that! It didn't take long for people to hit the dance floor once they had entered, the beats simply carrying them away.
BMX, a Brisbane band doing amazing things with Triple J Unearthed, rocked the house out with their electronic pop. Dominiqe, Jad, Dane and lead singer Temma impressed the full house, with many loyal fans packing out front of stage.
Moods provided another reason to get your groove on, not needing the "Disco Fever" lights to light up the dancefloor, the sounds coming from behind the decks did that all by themselves!
Van She provided an amazing LIVE set, proving that they really are the band to watch in 2008. Their electronic style rock is combined beautifully with vocals and the boys from Sydney gave a high energy, blow the sound system type of performance. There was no doubt that a huge crew had come out to see the boys play their hybrid band/DJ set and they did not disappoint! Look out for the release of "V" on August 9.
If that wasn't enough - we provided another DJ set with LadyBoy jumping behind the decks for a few tracks. We had people moving like they had never moved before. A sea of elsewhere-ians all taking up their position on the dancefloor!
The long awaited return of AJAX to elsewhere was a welcome sight! The elsewhere family secretly wanted to chain him to the DJ booth so he could never leave us again, and I am 100% sure that those in attendance on Sunday night would have wanted the same thing! He showed everyone why he was voted the No.1 Australian DJ on inthemix!
Having just played a LIVE set to a room full of screaming fans didn’t distract the Van She boys from taking off their “band” hats and slipping into their “DJ hats” and putting on a stellar performance as Van She Tech. The boys proved that they can do just about anything they put their minds too!
What better way to end the night than with Sunday resident DJ, Giv providing all of the Royale style the crowd could handle. Our very own Friday DJ, Audun was spotted during the wee hours of the morning spinning a few to make the crowd go crazy as well.
Van She were their own groupies sticking around until 10am, chilling out and graffiti’ing our toilets!
A big “THANK YOU” goes out to Lick It, Modular and of course, Wolfgang DJs, BMX, Moods, Van She, LadyBoy, Van She Tech, AJAX and Giv for putting on a great performance on Sunday night! We would love to see more from ALL of you in the near future – once we have fully recovered from this event that is!
